Dr. Darryl Carlton Testimonials
-
“Darryl is one of the few true "thought leaders" I ever met. A rare person able to think ahead but also able to transform a vision into actions. He displays the energy that motivates others working for him and around him. Working with Darryl is in itself an experience worth remembering, working for him must be full of learning”
-
“Darryl offers extremely deep insights. He is a forward thinker with an enormous depth of knowledge. In his strategic consulting role to the Department, Darryl offered a level of rationale, reasoning and logic that is normally associated with renown intellectual and research organisations.”
-
“Darryl worked with us in DOI turning some of the initiatives identified in our ICT Business Strategy into realities for our clients in the business. Darryl brings creativity and an entrepreneurial flair to his work.”
-
“Darryl brought tremendous depth and experience in the computer software industry and of the Asia market place for Service Providers. He approached every task with energy and with an action plan.”
-
“Darryl brings energy and enthusiasm into everything he does. His strong intellectual capability allows him to pick up concepts and ideas and to develop an understanding of existing processes and services at a remarkable rate. The result of which is that he is able to make a contribution quickly and effectively. This combined with his desire and ability to be a catalyst for positive change in a business make a significant difference to every project where he is involved.”
-
“I worked with Darryl on a highly complex, multi-million dollar opportunity with a large telecommunciations company, proposing a technology solution which was new and largely unproven for our company. Darryl brought an amazing depth of understanding across all key aspects of the sales cycle and solution we were proposing - firstly, a strategic perpective on the competitive forces and directions that the telecommunciations industry was heading; secondly, a non-threatening and collaborative approach to building a business case with the customer; and thirdly, a solid understanding of the technology that underpinned our solution and how it would enhance and extend the customer's existing technology architecture. Darryl's passion for the solution, dedication to the opportunity and ability to navigate the internal politics of our organisation, helped make a challenging engagement, enjoyable for myself and the customer. A testament to the relationship and trust Darryl built with the customer was the fact that even after Darryl had left Avaya, the customer brought him on as a consultant for the project. I'd welcome the opportunity to work on a project with Darryl again in the future.”
-
“Darryl and I worked together at Avaya, where our two groups were interdependent on each other to deliver Avaya solutions to the service provider market. The SP market is one of Darryl's expertise area, and he pursued this at Avaya with passion and innovation. He has a good grasp of the Asia SP markets and culture, and can always see the problem from different angles that, many times, resulted in innovative solutions.”
-
“Darryl provided consultancy services in the area of strategic systems planning and brought to the exercise a high level of professionalism, especially in his expert knowledge of the telco business and new and developing technologies, and in his strong reliance on linking business strategy and objectives to IT plans.”
Tony Ottobre (IT Director at Telecom Australia, hired Darryl as a IT Consultant)
-
“I have known Darryl for almost 15 years as a High level strategist for large corporates and government and also within his own companies that he has built over that period. He is a forward thinker, in tune with emerging trends globally. I know of his early background in the Telecommunications industry but subsequently he has built on this depth to embrace the emergence of the internet and mobility to become a specialist in all things related to the convergence of IT, Telecoms and media.”
-
“I worked for Darryl whilst at PA Consulting. Darryl was always very professional and supportive. Over this period of time we became very good friends. On many occasions Darryl acted an an advisor and confidante - someone I could turn to when the need arose. I have always held Darryl in very high regard.”
-
“I worked for Darryl when he was CEO/Founder of BizTone. He is a fantastic leader. I was fortunate enough in the early formations of the company to have seen first hand all his senior executive qualities such as leadership, drive and the ability to motivate the whole company to bigger and better achievements. Whichever company Darryl leads, you can be sure that the company will be fun to work in, but at the same time, deliver exceptional results.”
Vinh Tran, Info Specialist Snr, EDS
-
“I worked with Darryl on a range of strategic consulting assignments, his breadth of vision was sometimes challenging, but ultimately of enormous value. This enabled us to conceive AND deliver cutting edge solutions and architectures. Some of these are today BAU, but at the time data and mobile convergence was anything but. We also were early in driving value from SOE and Application Architecture. An invaluable member of a team to leverage technology innovation to the future.”

Commendations for his work at Gartner

Lisa Hager-Duncan, Executive Partner for the US Army, Gartner
Hopefully I don’t embarrass you Darryl but Dennis, I wanted you to know how incredible Darryl is to work with (I had planned on sending you an email) to tell you this. Darryl took so much care to help on this account and he checked back with a status on how things were coming along to ensure that the client was not waiting, and he was even willing to work on it over the weekend and with a holiday coming up (which we didn’t ask of him, of course) but he did offer which I was very taken aback with. This client’s inquiry tend to be much more complex than other client’s inquiry that we have, due to their size and what they try to tackle and the mission that they have on their plates to carry forward on a daily basis, carrying short timelines, etc. They also don’t have total control over the direction they are going in all the time, they just need to carry out what the gov't tells them to do and as a result, they rely heavily on Gartner to understand that while guiding them the best way possible. They have great respect for us as a result.
This account is so important and holds a good amount of CV and the clients are at a very high level within the army so their influence often has great pull with Gartner’s ability to renew other attached business, especially since it is the Headquarters of the army. This type of help is more than outstanding and is above and beyond and goes a long way with this organization. This organization is the type that remembers this type of help too, which is always a good thing.

Tom Kinslow, SVP China for Gartner
I didn’t know Darryl before a visit to China last year. He came over to my desk, introduced himself, and said “I have a free hour, do you mind if I give a short presentation to your
AE’s”. Of course I said yes. What I didn’t realize was that he started a process that changed the way we use analysts. Darryl gave a short talk – he told the AE’s what he did, what he covered, the types of situations he could help, and the types of clients he was best at meeting. He told the team that he had a busy week, but still had some spare time. His little talk was so effective, I literally had 2 AE’s fighting over his time (he went with one of the AE’s and closed an 80k deal...)I can’t tell you how many deals Darryl has impacted – I am sure you have seen some of the callouts. But he is THE most popular visiting analyst – very sales friendly, puts up with a new sales team, and has the ability to coach the AE’s. But, best of all, we close business after he leaves!
Darryl has also helped me – I was new to China, and he had some great advice and feedback. He has a way of giving that feedback – to me or an AE – so that it comes across as sincere and constructive.

Jani Rundall, Sr. Account Executive- Education Practice, Gartner
I wanted to share with you some amazing results achieved as a result of collaboration efforts between sales and the analyst community. Darryl Carlton has been working with me over the last several months with both prospects and unengaged clients. I put him in front of a client or prospect and it’s like a switch turns on!
I recently renewed an “At Risk” client, Vic Dept of Ed, who shared with me that they weren’t receiving value from Gartner. Although they did renew, they still did very little to engage. I set up a face to face with Darryl and the client. Because of Darryl’s experience and connections within the Melbourne area, I witnessed instant credibility. We now have a mutually agreed upon plan in place supporting their Applications Strategy. Darryl’s expertise and his ability to communicate a clear picture of to position Gartner as “an extension of their team” was simply brilliant!
Darryl has also been instrumental in a recent win at RMIT. Currently we are collaborating on significant upgrade opportunities at Swinburne Uni and Melbourne Uni. I’ve been with Gartner for almost 6 years both in the U.S. and now in Australia. Darryl is one of the most engaging analysts I’ve ever worked with in my career at Gartner. His ability to play a role in the sales process and then deliver exceptional value to the client is priceless.
Darryl’s a Rock Star Analyst and now on my speed dial
